    Good album.

Go on. Give it a go!

Just caught up with Eddie Vedders latest solo album, Earthling.
A different flavour of darkness from the better Pearl Jam output but manages to sound fresh and cheery at the same time.
I've only played it the once today so hard to pick a go-to song, let's go pin in track listing....

Sounds good. Now to find it on Quboz.
  • In a similar vein, I've been listening to Keith Jarrett's new album, but haven't listened to it enough to properly figure it out.

    Keith Jarrett - Bordeaux Concert

Just a random track. Some of it is on YT, but not all of it.

Liked it. I'll listen to it again, but maybe omitting the track with Elton John. Not that I have anything against Elton, but their voices don't seem to go together.
  • So, while looking for the Jarrett, Qobuz came up with this:

Magma - Eskahl 2020. Bordeaux, Toulouse, Perpignan.

I'm reminded why I gave away the only Magma album I've ever owned!  :p
  • Magma, Crikey I'd actually completely forgotten about them.
Never could see the attraction, on listening just now I'm non the wiser!

Magnum, much better. Rather like the classic and triple choc, oh and the band are ok too >:)
  • Sorry to have brought them back into your life, Chris, but I couldn't keep their awfulness to myself.

Magnum: I'll stick to the ice creams.
  • I now only listen to music via amazon echo and old ipad. If you have the time, inclination plse talk me through the process, I have no idea how I get from there to here? (Think 10year old) Would be nice to post some pics tho.
    PS how's the sub doing?
  • First off: are you listening to YouTube?

The sub is great. Strangely enough, it's most at home with acoustic music.
  • Yes YouTube. great to hear the sub works for you.
  • Sorry, also includes amazon echo, radio paradise etc.
  • YouTube is the one that works when you post here. Typically, when I've listened somewhere else, I look it up on YouTube and then paste it on Chews.

I'm cooking at the moment, so watch this space for a step-by-step.
  • Sorry, no explanation. It's been a stressful couple of days, with our dog finally having to go for major spinal surgery at a specialist unit in Winchester, which is about an hour from us.

It's impossible to know how he will emerge at the other end  :'(
  • Sorry to hear :'(
Our pooches are very special members of the family.
Play him some healing tunes...nunadat ugly stuff ;)
  • Thank you, Chris

They are. We never had kids, so we're very attached to him.

I'll play him one of those doggie playlists from Spotify after he gets back (probably Friday or Saturday).
  • Sorry to hear about your dog, kids or not they can become very special. I hope all goes well.
  • Thanks, Ron

Thelonious is recovering well, but he still has some way to go.
  • Started out with Free the first two albums, progressed to Spectrum Billy Chobham and ended up with lots of. Diana Krall? work that out!
  • I've not done any listening today because we collected Thelonious from the doggie hospital. Now for four weeks of recovery. Lots of work for us, and my wife's away on business next week. Bliss!

But he seems very happy and seems to be recovering well, so it's not all bad!  :)
  • Fantastic, I'm sure he is more than happy to be home .Our canine friends are so "live in the moment" unlike us, we could all learn a lot from that. Enjoy.
  • He seems to be. Thanks, Ron.
  • Hooray for Mr. Pooch!

    What type is he?

My wife has a black and tan, long haired dachshund. Size wise he's rated a "tweenie", too large for a miniature and too small for a standard.

He's a funny little fella, not clever by any means but full of love and mad enough to keep us entertained!
  • Just found some Les McCann on utube, had two albums by him on vinyl (miss it) nice

    He's a cockapoo (first-generation cocker spaniel/poodle cross).

    What's your wife's dog called?

Do you know, I don't know McCann. What should I be listening to?
  • Not sure really, I had Mc Cann the man and Plays the hits, just had a quick check on Discogs didn't realize he had so many albums! give Mc Cann the man a go?

    They're always great dogs!

The little dax is called Sancho, as in Panza!
Less because of the actual character and more because of his names appearance in the Stranglers song. B)

    I'll try it! Thanks.

They are. He has a lot of energy and is hating being crated - only another 3 1/2 weeks, little chap  :'(

Give Sancho a little stroke from me.
  • Miss our dog, lost him shortly after the first lockdown, a great friend and wounder full character , so calm. Will never forget him. "Frankie" a Spanish rescue.

I bet you do. We've been saying how hard it will be when Thelonious' time comes.
  • It was made harder by having to choose continued meds or putting him to rest, never had such a hard decision.
  • Very difficult. I can only imagine.
  • I'm about an hour into the Qobuz Hi-Res Reggae playlist. It's pretty good.

So far, the highlight of the stuff I don't know is this:

Something familiar in there somewhere?  B)
  • Snarky Puppy - Empire Central

I'd dismissed the puppies as uninteresting machine fusion. This, recorded live in the studio in Dallas, is a different thing altogether. Maybe I need to revisit their earlier albums.
  • Gil Scott-Heron/Makaya McCraven - We're New Again

Makaya McCraven's 'reimagining' is what the original album should have been. For me, I'm New Here faded from the great enthusiasm I felt when a new Scott-Heron album popped out of nowhere. The musical backing just doesn't fit. McCraven understands where the original crew didn't.
  • Lots of Rye Cooder at the moment, especially the early stuff.
  • edited October 2022
Michael Formanek, Ensemble Kolossus - The Distance

Sorry, all I can find is this promo. If you're interested, it should be on all your favourite streaming services.

BTW. The dog doesn't like it.
  • Your dog has some taste, me thinks. beyond me sorry.
  • Maybe he has  ;)

I love it, but that's me.
  • As we all are, I hope.
  • Me? No. That would be horrible  :)
  • We were talking about soul...

OV Wright - A Nickel and A Dime and An Ace of Spades

  • Just finished a tour of Ian Durey albums, fantastic rhythm section and some great lyrics.
As for soul, try some B E King, you might be surprised, if you're not then Otis Reading, Otis Blue. If that isn't enough I'm lost.
  • One of my musical regrets, that. Never seeing Ian Dury live.

Ben E King? Otis Redding, I know. I must admit I've never heard of Otis Blue.
  • Sorry, Ben E King
  • Bela Fleck, you tube.
  • ... and the Flecktones, probably!
  • Don't think so?
