  • I liked it more than the Porcupine Tree.
  • Book of Sounds - Book of Sounds

More Scandinavian jazz found on Tidal. Very nice two sax, bass and drums stuff rooted in early Ornette and 60s Blue Note.
  • Powerhouse - Five plus four

Modern adaptations of 70s jazz-funk and soul jazz. It'll have me playing my Crusaders albums from the period.
  • Charlie Hunter (featuring Curtis Fowlkes and Charlie Hunter) - Let the Bells Ring On

Just guitar, trombone and drums. But what an album!

  • I've been exploring some of Charlie Hunter's back catalogue. Not sure I think much of the Bob Marley covers album Natty Dread, but this one is great:

Charlie Hunter - Songs from the Analog Playground

    tidal.com/album/1398786
  • Wayne Horvitz - Some places are forever afternoon (11 places for Richard Hugo)

    tidal.com/album/48738274
  • Beats & Pieces Big Band - All In
  • Morten Qvenild - Personal Piano

    tidal.com/artist/6682251

Not what I expected at all. More personal than piano. What do they put in the water in Norway?
  • Golden Teacher - Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

New to me. Heard on the radio a bit recently and am trying to make better use of Spotify to follow stuff up. There's much that appeals with this album. But also something that doesnt quite hit that sweet spot. Can't quite put my finger on what's missing tho.
  • Pablo Moses "Lonely Singer"

I could only find a few tracks on Tidal, but they didn't do it for me.

    Nice!
  • James Blake - James Blake

The Raspberry Pi finds a whole lot in this recording that was never there through the Mac.
  • The Fully Celebrated Orchestra - Drunk on the Blood of the Holy Ones

One of my favourite albums of the last few years. And a lovely natural recording to boot.
  • Art Pepper - Living Legend
  • Rhythmites - integration
  • The Incognito Traveller - Movements of Migration

This may well be up your street Ben.
  • Lee Perry & the Upsetters - Dub Triptych

Lee Perry! I love 'Scratch' :-)
  • In fact, I'm going to play it right now :-)
  • It must qualify as ugly music then  ;)
  • Ugly is in the ear of the beholder ;-)

No, not 'him', but these: John Mark, Johnny Almond.

  • Dave Douglas' Brass Ecstasy - Greenleaf Portable Series, Volume 1: Rare Metals

    tidal.com/album/52023864

Presumably Douglas' bow to Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy band of a few years back. I like it!

yep, have been liking bits of this. Ta Alan.
Though now feeling the urge to counter-balance all that loveliness with a bit of Beastie Boys, Hello Nasty.
  • Are the Beasties Ugly? :-)

  • Air - Moon Safari.
Not ugly. Pretty. I'm having a bit of a bi-polar day I think.
  • Ah, a  moon theme, I'm listening to Camel's Moon Madness and trying to resist howling at the full ma-ooooooooooon!
  • oh no, I may have to put some Credence Clearwater on now!

Ah, the Questers have been keeping me company in my car all this week. I've been enjoying muchly.
  • Good to be accompanied by that sort of thing.
Just realised I didn't have enough of their stuff in my collection. Have remedied that.

  • Hey, not bad this lot!

    The Fugees "Zealots"

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x248wq6_the-fugees-zealots_music

Whatever happend to Lauren Hill? I used to reall like her rapping, singing, acting, not giving in (too much) to the trashy-sexiness of celebrity... Love her work in that track. :-)

  • Not as brilliant as I remembered, but still some really good tracks... :-)
    Nice chunky bass too.
  • The Beatles "The White Album" + Jay-Z "The Black Album" = Dangermouse "The Grey Album"

I suspect that purists from either of the component sides dislike the final sum, but I think it's bloomin great...

    :D

I have, I think, three of their albums. Haven't played them for yonks.

Come FInd Yourself is the only one I've heard. If you dust off the others, I'd be interested to read how they compare. :-)
  • OK, rock head's back to add some weight to the proceedings..

More Scandanavian outings in the form of Jorn. Good old guitar driven rock and a vocalist with some decent grunt.

They've also done some excellent covers of Dio, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath......

I have a feeling you've heard the best one.

Ok. I've bitten the bullet

More mayhem from Scandinavia in the form of

Raoul Bjorkenheim, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilsson Love - Scorch Trio

It does what it says on the tin.
  • ^^^ I had wee listen to Scorch Trio but have to admit it's not to my taste.
It did, however, remind of Don Cabellero and the only album by them I slowly became to like "What Burns Never Returns".

    Not to shabby. Thanks Dave.
As you suggest, I suspect I have enough FLC already.
