Listening to ...

  • After dipping into Patti Smith on Spotify, I've moved on to the kind of noisy rock/poetry that puts a smile on my face:

    Grinderman - Grinderman 2

'My baby calls me the Loch Ness Monster, two great big humps and then I'm gone,' apparently
    :) ;-)
  • I only really like Twelve which is her covers album.

    I'll check out R3, ta
  • Unfortunately, Twelve ain't on Spotti  :-(
  • That's a shame.  Worth getting if you like the tracks, she does them all well.  The ones I like anyway.
  • Maybe I'll give it a listen when I come round in the new year.

Babel - Klaus Schulze and Andreas Grosser

I've got this on CD but
keep forgetting to find it when I'm away from the computer. Spotify has
it, and it's a single track almost an hour long so I don't get any
annoying adverts for a while. They do seem to queue up a few adverts for
people listening to very long tracks though, not something I'd noticed
    before.
  • Sorry about the quote, having trouble posting normally, keep getting a message saying my 'body' is too long.

And your feet are big, too   :)
  • Odd about body length?  We've had some longer posts before now.

    Now:

    Donald Byrd - Free Form
  • Maybe I'll give it a listen when I come round in the new year.

    More than welcome

Did you see the repeated documentary on Krautrock on BBC4 recently?

Adrian Sherwood - Never Trust a Hippy
  • Adrian Sherwood - Never Trust a Hippy
    Hah! Love the title :)

    Now:

    Dave Frank - Solo Piano
  • Adrian Sherwood - Never Trust a Hippy
    Hah! Love the title :)

    Now:

    Dave Frank - Solo Piano
    Who he?
  • That's what I said before I heard it.  Still don't know much about him apart from he plays well.
  • St Germain - Boulevard
  • Charlie Haden - Magico
  • Romano/Sclavis/Texier - African Flashback
  • Found this on Spotti:

I guess that must be the guy.

I'll give it a listen later.
  • My Spotify's gone belly up at the moment.  It had to be a hack anyway to run in Linux.  Haven't looked at it yet.

    Now:

    Randy Newman - Sail Away
  • Loads of Elvis :)
  • Van Morrison - Moondance
  • William Elliot Whitmore - Animals in the Dark
  • Walter Trout - Full Circle
  • Walter Trout - Full Circle
    Brother of Kilgore?
  • No idea?  A very under rated blues man in my view.
  • Marcus Miller - M Squared

    J.J. Cale – Naturally

    I love JJ Cale!
  • Here we go again! So do I :)
  • How'd you go with Dave Frank?
  • We are people of taste
    :D

I bought a JJ Cale compilation for SWMBO, because she likes Clapton (why?) and found I like it as much as she does.

Strange, because I'm not much into Country or the Blues. There's just something very special about him.
  • How'd you go with Dave Frank?
The solo compilation on Spotti didn't do much for me. He didn't seem strong enough to sustain my attention. Maybe with a band?
  • Charles Mingus - Pithecanthropus Erectus

  • I've only heard his solo work so wouldn't know.  I like it.

    Uh, what's wrong with Clapton?

    Time to differ!

He bores the pants off me - but then I never got into the blues, and particularly the UK's 60s stuff.
  • I was on Kula Shaker - K, second time through as I didn't notice it looping. Now on to Charles Mingus - Pithecanthropus Erectus thanks to Jim's mention of it.

(Also swapped to Chrome as this was playing up in Firefox, this time not keeping me logged in. I have a feeling my problems are with FF rather than the site.)

Did I see on Twitter that you were using the FF4 beta? Could this be the source of the probs?
  • Alice Coltrane - Transfiguration

Let's get some way away from the blues
    :)

I'm back on FF 3.6.whatever-the-latest-is as FF4 crashed so hard yesterday due to Flash (I think) I had to pull the plug to reboot the machine. FF4 is nice and quick but I can't lose that much time to a browser playing up at the moment!

    Love the picture!!

The 60s UK is not my favourite.  I prefer the Delta Blues.  Lots of folk I know says he bores them, just shows how different we all are.  I love his dexterity and fluidity.
  • Tom Waits - Mule Variations

    Chocolate Jesus :)

I was looking for the version that says Clapton is dog, but found that instead, which I think is better!

I once described Clapton as being to John Lee Hooker what Kenny G is to John Coltrane, but I'm still recovering from the injuries

    Chick Corea - Solo Piano

Lovely version of the Strayhorn standard Lush Life
  • Anat Fort - A Long Story

I'm a sucker for piano albums with Paul Motian in the drum seat - from Bill Evans onwards.
