  • Change the CD,
    Sorry that was rubbish

  • Thanks Sovereign lol
  • James, shame on you! Esp after i resisted suggesting meditation :-D
  • Let it hum a little longer and you'll get the tune!
    :D
    ***serious mode on***
Is the CD player new to you? Has anything changed since it didn't hum? Check the interconnects. Try CD player on another amp if possible, if it still hums it's your CD player causing it.
    ***serious mode off***

p.s. try the radio, see if it's whistling!

  • Wondering if my pre amp is sensitive to it,as is didnt hum through my other amp. The cd player doesnt have an earth so would that be an issue for my pre? If so how could i get around it?
  • Your CD player doesn't have an earth, or it isn't connected?

    No earth wire
  • Is the CD player on top of the pre-amp?

Hi Col no i got it on a separate shelf
  • Where is it plugged into the mains, relative to the pre and power amps?
  • I got them all running into a mains distribution block
  • Check screen cables, or the pre has lost a return/stroke earth signal. Or much worse it broken and there is a hum loop maybe power caps etc nafff.
  • Yeah it only hums on cd not turntable,i bringing up to you to soon to upgrade few components in it for me so you can check :)

I have often expereinced installs where either the source or the pre-amp object to this arrangement. I assume it being transformer hum from the power amp being picked up by the source/pre.
  • Yeah it only happens when i turn selector to cd
